SPA decided to assign to President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and UN Secretary-General António Guterres the title of honorary members of the cooperative as a way of recognizing the importance that both have always attributed to culture, in the exercise of their functions, as an essential instrument for the dignification of democracy and human being.
Without prejudice to the desired formal delivery of this title, SPA will send a diploma and an allusive plaque to the two distinguished persons, hoping that this act will be seen as a form of applause and appreciation of the community of Portuguese authors, composed by more than 65 thousand creators, to two fundamental figures of our political life, our citizenship and our capacity for affirmation in the world.
It is the first time that SPA decides to award the title of honorary member to personalities of reference in national life for their unquestionable merit and for the recognized quality of their performance.
